What is the Star Chart PC app?

Any space-loving backyard astronomer should have a trusted sky map to reference when stargazing or peering through the viewfinder of their telescope, and app developers have stepped up to offer a wide array of options for Android and iOS users. Although the earliest star map, a carving of the constellation Orion on a mammoth tusk, is over 32,000 years old, most current maps are thankfully digital.

With city smog and light pollution prevalent in most urban spaces, it’s all too easy to forget what a clear evening looks like, but the secluded nature of our quirky abodes means you can gaze up at the endless sky into the evening, keeping an eager eye out for shooting stars and any of the famous formations that are visible.  From meteor showers to planets coming into alignment, the best stargazing apps can help you pinpoint and enjoy some of the wonders of the night sky. And it’s all right there on your smartphone.

Star Chart for PC is an astronomy app that lets you clearly see all the stars, constellations, and other astronomical objects listed in the Messier Catalog. With Star Chart for Windows app, you can move freely through the night sky by sliding your finger across the screen. You can also point your device toward the sky and see the same part of the sky that’s in front of you on the device. You can see and learn about thousands of stars, constellations, planets, and even the moon.

Star Chart also lets you focus on any astronomical object you want to view in more detail. You can click on any of these objects to see information like its brightness or distance from Earth.

How does it Work?

It adds an entirely new dimension to the regular star chart for PC app. It brings out the story behind the constellations and gets conversations started about the histories and cultures behind the names given. It’s a great teaching and learning tool as well as just being fun.

Star Chart for Windows is an astronomy app that makes it easy for you to learn more about the objects you are viewing by tapping the star or planet. One of the amazing features is Time Shift that allows you to go back and forth in time to see past and future celestial placement patterns. The Star Chart app gives you the ability to take screen captures and save images to your device. Have your students use the app to collect information and images that they can later use in reports, presentations or to integrate into other media.

An extremely user-friendly application with beautiful aesthetics and an attractive interface, this app provides a practical guide to what is happening all those miles away in real time. The effortless design of the app means you must simply point your device at the sky, and it will provide fascinating information about what it is that you are seeing.

In the free version you get some very nice graphical representations of the night sky, a way to identify and learn more about what you are seeing. If you want to explore other areas of the sky without using the AR feature, just drag your finger over the screen. You can even point your screen down below the horizon and see what other parts of the world will be seeing at night.
