What is the Philo TV PC app

The Discovery-owned Philo TV is an “over-the-top,” or OTT, service, which means it comes through the internet rather than on dedicated lines or over the air. But Philo specializes in live TV, so it streams programs as they are broadcast. It also offers shows and movies on demand.

Philo TV for PC app is a cord cutter’s dream a way to watch live TV channels without the expensive cable bill. The streaming service offers the ability to view and record live TV from 63 channels for just $20 per month. And it’s available on most major streaming devices, including Roku, Chromecast, and Apple TV.

While Philo TV doesn’t have local channels nor every major cable network in its lineup, it does feature a lot of popular channels. And the service offers Starz and Epix as premium add-ons. For the price, Philo could be the perfect streaming solution to get rid of headache-inducing cable bills and impossible-to-cancel contracts. A seven-day free trial gives new users the chance to check out Philo before committing to a subscription.

Philo TV’s interface is designed to create an easy-to-navigate user experience. The main screen has a few primary sections:

  • Home: This main screen showcases top titles, upcoming episodes, and what’s airing live. This section also groups shows and movies by themes, such as Reality Roundup, Comfort Food, Kids, True Crime, and more, so users can navigate to what most interests them. Additionally, the home screen keeps track of the shows and movies you haven’t finished so you can quickly resume them when you are ready.
  • Saved: This page collects your saved and recorded titles, so when you add something from one of the other menu pages, it will show up here.
  • Search: A search bar allows you to type in and find exactly what you’re looking for, whether it’s a specific channel to browse recent episodes of your favorite show or it’s an on-demand movie you want to watch.

Why is it For you

A lot of video streaming services cost as much as a regular cable subscription, which defeats one of the main purposes of ditching cable in the first place. Lifestyle- and entertainment-focused service Philo TV, on the other hand, is very affordable. It charges only $20 per month for access to 63 channels of live and on-demand content. Philo TV for Windows is not in the business of creating original content like Netflix and Amazon Prime are.

If you don’t care about news or sports channels, then Philo TV PC app is an easy recommendation. If you do, Philo is still cheap enough that you could subscribe to both it and a cheap on-demand or live TV service to supplement coverage. Locast, for example, with its lineup of local live TV channels complements Philo’s lineup nicely.

What does it cost

Philo offers just one plan and it costs $20 per month. Previously it offered two tiers: one for $16 per month and one for $20 per month. For that $20-per-month price, you can stream all 63 channels on the service and use all of the service’s features. The only available add-ons are for Epix and Starz. The Epix add-on costs $6 per month and includes the Epix, Epix HD, and Epix 2 channels. The $9-per-month Starz add-on includes the Starz, Starz Encore, and Starz Kids & Family channels. Philo offers a free seven-day trial and a referral program, too.
