Why the NVIDIA GeForce Now PC app
Nvidia GeForce Now for PC is one of the few cloud gaming services. But, even though GeForce Now is just in beta, it already provides an equal amount of access for PC and Mac users alike. Nvidia gives a complete rundown on the hardware specifications required to use its service, so you’ll know exactly what kind of PC or Mac you need to play games on your computer through Nvidia’s servers—and the requirements are super basic.
You’ll also need to own the games you want to play through the service, as there is no option to purchase games directly. It remains to been seen if/how Nvidia will monetize its service, what subscription levels will be available, etc. Looking at the other cloud gaming services available can give us somewhat of a good idea, but of course, no two services will be exactly alike. At one point in 2018, there was talk of pricing it per hour of use, with $25 getting 20 hours of playtime. Considering the cloud GPUs are basically GTX 1080 Ti equivalents, it’s a high-performance option.
Like all game streaming services, NVIDIA GeForce Now requires lots of internet bandwidth and speed. It needs at least a 15Mbps connection for 720p60 game streaming and 25Mbps for 1080p60 streaming. That means either a wired or a 5GHz Wi-Fi connection to your router.
Nvidia GeForce Now for Windows is available in two membership tiers, Free and Founders. Free is obviously free, and Founders is $4.99 per month with a 90-day free trial period. The Founders membership provides priority access to Nvidia’s systems, streaming with RTX ray-tracing enabled, and gaming sessions of up to six hours at a time. The free membership disables RTX and only lets you play for an hour at a time before you need to go to the back of the line and wait to access Nvidia’s computers again.
Note At the given moment not everything is final not even the pricing, we will have to wait and see what the future holds for this service
PCs require at least Windows 7 64-bit with a dual-core CPU 2GHz or faster, 4GB of system memory, and a GPU that supports DirectX 11 (which includes Intel HD Graphics 2000 or better integrated graphics).
Mac support requires at least macOS 10.10, and according to Nvidia has been tested successfully on MacBook Air and MacBook Pro notebooks from 2008 and newer, and iMacs from 2009 and newer.
Android devices require at least Android 5.0 with 2GB of RAM and support for OpenGL ES3.2.
