Table of Contents
Download the Epic Kids app on PC. It is the leading digital reading platform for kids 12 and under, offering access to over 40,000 high-quality books for kids, learning videos, reading quizzes and more.
Epic KIDS PC app was designed by parents concerned that their children spent more time playing games and watching videos than reading on their devices. They were also concerned that, while these games and videos were very easy to access, getting books usually requires a parent to purchase and download it every time their child wanted a new one, one book at a time.
What is the Epic Kids PC app?
EPIC KIDS’ for PC allows parents or kids to set their own preferences for the types of books they like to read, topic interests, and age level. As books open, they reveal a brief synopsis, estimated reading time, reading level, author, and publisher.
Epic Kids for Windows is a giant digital library of books for various age groups and reading levels, in hundreds of genres. It’s been described as “Netflix for Books.” Their app also includes hundreds of educational videos from sources like Flocabulary and National Geographic Kids.
How to use the app
Tap on the page to expand, swipe to turn to the next page, adjust brightness and flip pages by swiping, and tap the bookmark to mark your page. There’s a built-in Merriam-Webster dictionary that’s written accessibly for kids; tap and hold on to any word to see its definition. You also can earn badges, choose favorites, and track the number of books read, the amount of time read, and pages flipped. There are also over 1,000 educational videos from sources like National Geographic Kids and Flocabulary.
You can create up to four different profiles in your account, so each of your children can have their own profile that is customized just for them. As your child reads, Epic will track their progress and you’ll be able to see stats like time spent reading, number of pages flipped, and the total number of books completed. Your kids will be able to earn rewards and badges when they hit certain milestones in their accounts.
The Epic Kids PC system will make book recommendations for your child, based on their preferences and what they’re reading. Users can also search for books based on subject, genre, and age. Some books also include audio or “read-to-me” versions, and your child can follow along with highlighted words on the page.
What can teachers Gain?
Use Epic Kids Books and Videos as you would use a library. Students can read books that interest them during silent reading or free-choice time. They can build their own collections, rate what they’ve read, and then report back to the teacher offline with a summary or a reflection on what they learned or liked about the book.
Teachers can assign a theme (for example, biographies of important people in history) and let students find and read material on that theme. Or teachers can assign specific books based on reading level or by topic to get students investigating a particular subject or literature theme.
After reading, follow up with related activities. Concepts of plot, theme, character development, and so on can follow a work of fiction. Historical reenactments, videos, reports, or further research can deepen learning after reading a nonfiction book. To help with assessment, teachers can use the limited number of books that have multiple-choice quizzes already or write and post their own to the community.
