Why The Amazon Music PC app
Many streaming music services aim to be jacks of all trades, but there’s something to be said for focus and simplicity. Though Amazon Music for PC lacks video content, it excels at bringing a deep podcast well and more than 60 million songs and compositions—some of them in delicious HD Audio—to your ears via a web browser, desktop, and mobile apps, and Amazon Alexa-powered devices.
Amazon Music for Windows HD is a high-quality music streaming service and is something Amazon Music Unlimited subscribers can easily upgrade to for a small price hike. Since its launch in September 2019, The app has grown in popularity, particularly among the audiophile crowd, and has already accrued 55 million listeners. Anyone whose pride and joy rests in their music collection will rejoice at how Amazon Music HD delivers lossless FLAC audio at 24bit/192kHz.
Users seem to love Amazon Music on PC’s seamless integration with Echo devices. Just ask Alexa to play a song, an artist, or something like “pool party music” if you want music to fit a specific vibe. While you can use other streaming services with Alexa, the difference here is that it’s built-in, you don’t need to specify what service Alexa needs to play the song on, she already knows it’s Music Unlimited. If you rely heavily on Alexa, this is a nice feature.
Something I found fun was the karaoke-style lyrics provided with each song. When you listen to a song, the lyrics show up on your screen, rolling as the song goes on. You can jump to any point in the song using this feature — just click the lyrics you want to hear. I love knowing song lyrics, so I think this feature is really fun.
Of course, Music Unlimited also offers the industry-standard $9.99 per month premium plan for its ad-free Individual tier. Note, however, that Amazon Prime subscribers receive a discount that drops the fee to $7.99 per month (or $79 per year)—on top of their $129 per year Prime fees. Amazon Music is included in the Prime subscription
In addition, Amazon has a $14.99 per month (or $149 per year) Family Plan that covers six people. This offering rivals Apple Music, Deezer, Spotify, and Tidal’s similar packages. A massive 90-day free trial is available for people who want to try before they subscribe. Amazon Music for Windows Unlimited’s trial period outclasses rival trial periods, except for the one offered by SiriusXM Internet Radio. That service also boasts a 90-day free period.
